Writing
about this artist gives me an incomparable happiness because it
refers to a True Art that indisputably exists in the entire extension
of his life and work.
The life of the an artist is reflected in his obra and vice-versa
so that when we enter the apartment of Roberto Rodriguez the vibration
from his living area are sensitive product of the soul of a creative
person who surrender himself with own spirituality.
In an epoch in which certain painters call a picture a work of art
for the fact of having spilled a lit of color on a canvas; it is
a pleasure to have before me a human being who really makes me feel
that Michael angel could return to our era and a sigh and that we
too could delight ourselves with true a artist that have existed
in all the past eras but that pass as by one at a time like the
comet.
Rodriguez brushes are bewitched; the horses he paints appear to
be leaving the canvas. His technique is perfect, his modesty about
it is unbelievable and his timidity even greater.
He is a human being who causes our blood to boil when we contemplate
his work . Also, it causes delight to the viewer. His nudes have
their own power to show so much creativity.
His creative expression is a principal fact in all his work because
of the use of so many techniques, including sculpture . The way
he uses his imagination all together enables him to produce such
an impact on the viewer.

Far from the horizon that bombards my emotions with a mixture of
violent images essentially beautiful and hopeful as well”.
This well-known painter from Barranquilla is aware that the same
images that surround him and eventually touch him, will for this
reason, at the precise moment become part of the horizon that another
meticulous viewer could analyze, in order to later express in his
own language, his point of view.
After suffering his personal torments which each image has impacted
on me, my vulnerable creative spirit, a brainstorm of ideas surges
and in one of them his mind becomes organized so that suddenly the
need of taking pen and paper and ends the obra physically that he
gave me that bit of respect that I have earned as a plastic artist.
The process is stormy and full of emotions that ends magically .It
is a long agony-intrinsic to the work but almost always invisible
to the eyes of a blind viewer.
I am calling to awaken a particular point of view about this great
painter who does not premeditate meeting any one of his work, because
I strongly believe that behind each one of his work there are many
hidden questions that permit one to maintain one’s interest
in the next obra.
There is a confession in each obra. A mediocre society is the principal
wall against an artist can collide. The opinion of an artist about
art although it appears to be sure and precise, can be reduced to
not more or less as that of his own personal micro world.

THE
ART OF ROBERTO RODRIGUEZ
Contemplating
the obra of Roberto Rodriguez is like facing a work abundant in
surprises, fun, mystery, at the same time rigorous in the execution
of each element and detail that we see in it. From his first drawing,
and water colors up to his latest oils, years of work have elapsed
without pause, in the investigation of techniques materials and
points of view, time without measure in the awakening of himself
and in subjects, and elements that way cross or be part of it.
The body, the horse, the city, diverse objects of his time and of
the past at the same time.
Africa, its fauna, liquid sacred chance, textures, pain, mirror,
weather, eroticism, death and spaces. Elements taken from that which
we remember in flaming reality and that represent very faithfully,
but ones chosen, and disposed by the artist, they become a means
for saying, apart from its conventional definition: a means of expressing
more than exterior reality, his individual way of perceiving it,
of leaving it, thus remember the affirmation of Degas. “ The
picture is not the form but rather as we see the form.”
Thus, besides his excellently executed technique each obra captures
a fragment of the vital experience of the artist, converting itself
into the materialization of the intangible, his perception in almost
indescribable state that he himself barely achieves expression in
words such as : the sensation of summering in something liquid.
Perception molded by his history, his fears, his secret, his worries-
a memory – a dream a thought, an emotion , a desire.
This could mean, thru the plastic that Rodriguez presents to us
open the fan of possibilities that reality contains or that escapes
it and that the attention of a real artist reveals. It creates spaces
that vibrate with presence where we find exotic condensation and
displacements and an enchanting and careful management of liquid,
live, perspective, color and form.
Certain metamorphoses that have had an impact on the canvas, the
paper, the bronze, the cardboard and the wood, captured impassibly
in the ever new never ending river that crosses the artist and that
is the same river of living images that inevitably disquiet and
delight.Roberto Rodriquez art is the expression of the capacity
to feel and react before existence, to ask, to explore, to dream,
to believe, to wonder, and improve on what we all count but which
very few occasion blossom so appreciably in the mind, the heart
and the obra of a human being –invaluable achievement of culture
and the mysterious game of life.
We are participants in art as a pleasure and an effort full of responsibility
animated by the awakening of the understanding of an image and its
evocative power. Art as an expression of a desire, a road of patience
in the discovery of answers before universal particular interrogation
expression of the human condition in all its complexity.
